GOALS:
- Create an experience centered around a completely original Marvel character, the Hunter.
- Fuse both dark and light magic into a cohesive style.
- Blend tactical card based combat with third person exploration.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a collectable card turn based game with a third person exploration mode in between battles. Midnight Suns takes some aspects of XCOM and pushes them into new directions.
My role was leading a team of designers, artists and engineers across multiple disciplines to deliver features across the entire game. This included developing a Marvel approved UI style guide, motion graphics and logos along with building prototypes as well as final assets in Unreal 4.
One of the few assets that has been made public with the game is the logo for the Hunter, a completely original new Marvel character. I designed and developed the logo along with several other logos for lesser known Marvel characters with limited branding like Blade, Magik and Nico Minoru. There are still secrets to be revealed with the Hunter’s logo that I hope to break down here once the game has been released.
The logo was designed in 2D with the eventual goal of creating a 3D extruded seal that could be placed on the Hunter’s chest but would also be versatile enough to use across the game. I also developed the magical script that runs around the logo and any magical surfaces in the game world using alchemical symbols as inspiration.
Since the game has not been released I can not break down any specific work here. The most recent gameplay trailer gives a good glimpse at some of my work on the project.
