UI Design, Art and Engineering
On Madden 06 I was responsible for helping build the UI pipeline and creating the Flash object system we used for all UI elements. This screen shot shows the main menu which was a huge improvement over previous Maddens because it was accessible at any point during the game. I worked with a team to design the menu and I was responsible for building and animating the final menu.
We did some new things with play call in Madden 06 such as separating the plays into visual packages and improving the play art. I created the background treatment on this screen. My goal was to make something that looked impressive while working within restrictions not to use new assets that did not exist on this screen nor to compete with the play call data. This was a huge challenge and all the producers were very happy with what we shipped with.
We wanted all of our roster-type screens, which are the bulk of Madden’s UI, to be very modular and easy to implement throughout the game. I was in charge of creating the Spreadsheet component on this screen and the RStick Pane in the upper right of the screen. The RStick Pane was a new component for Madden. It contained some basic information about each player in the collapsed mode and then could be expanded to show cards of graphical data. I implemented the art and script for the RStick Pane and handled the screen transitions while another artist created the cards.
I created all the base components for the game like the buttons, toggles and sliders. I created all the settings screens and wrote all the screen transition animations.
